Simba and Angel Simba is now home and recovering from URI after a long week in the hospital. And, good news!! -- Simba has been adopted! AngelFeline Panleukopenia Virus is the virus that took our Angel's life Details of the last week of our Angel's life: DAY ONE January 31st, 2000 Our Angel is in the hospital as we speak. She is on intervenious fluids and antibiotics and has been sedated to help her rest. She had begun to seizure shortly after I dropped her at the vet's office this morning. The doctor suspects that she may have gotten into something before she came to rescue. He is continuing to run tests. He told me that by Tuesday morning, she would either be much, much better or much, much worse. The doctor said to me before I left his office, "Rogena, you know you could lose her?" I told him I knew, but do whatever it takes for her. So, please, light a candle and say a prayer for our little Angel that maybe we can keep her so that she can be somebody's "angel!" DAY TWO February 1st, 2000 She made it through the night on intervenious fluids and two very strong antibiotics. Because of the severe pain she was still experiencing, the doctor decided to run a second x-ray (one yesterday showed no obstructions). Comparing the two, he decided he needed to open her up to see what might be in her stomach (and spayed her while he had her opened up). He found LOTS of fluids in her stomach -- stomach like a water balloon and a very inflamed small intestine. Blood work showed extremely low white blood cell count, meaning it was looking like some sort of viril infection. They are looking into FIP or Feline Panleukopenia. Only time will tell. The vet clinic, along with Dr. Wingert, have been absolutely wonderful, looking for every clue as to what could be wrong with our little angel. Thank you, Independence Animal Hospital and especially Dr. Wingert! We love you all!! DAY THREE February 2nd, 2000 She is still holding her own. A Miracle, in the words of Dr. Becker! Still just a wait and see and PRAY situation. I went by to see her this morning. She is such a sweet little girl. I have grown to love her so much in just the last week and a half that she has been in our care. COST? People ask who pays for all of this. I do. We do. A lot of out of pocket and adoption fees for other cats along with a few donations that come in occasionally. We are always looking for sponsors for our cats, also. If you would be interested in sponsoring this little Angel, please email me at webmaster@kcsiameserescue.com . Most of all, continue to pray! DAY FOUR February 3rd, 2000 Each day she gets a little stronger. I visited her again today. I held her and loved her. I massaged her and talked to her. She still looks very bad -- drooling and crying and having to breathe out of her mouth due to a stuffy nose. I asked Dr. Wingert today what were his thoughts on her chances. He said we should hang on and keep trying since we've come this far. We could still lose her at any given moment -- she is that weak. She is still getting intravenous fluids and they stimulate her throughout the day. Once again, just continue to pray for her! DAY FIVE February 5th, 2000 A Very Sad Day at Siamese Rescue Dr. Wingert contacted me this morning (Friday, February 4th) to tell me that she passed in the night. Still unsure if it was FIP, but he is continuing to do tests on her tissue to determine exactly what it is. He suspects Feline Panlocopenia over FIP. I also had to take Angel's companion (not sure if they were litter mates or not) in this morning because he has been very lethargic. He had a fever and had to stay for fluids. This afternoon, the doctor said Simba's fever was gone and that he was doing much better. He is staying overnight while they continue the testing on him along with the autopsy on Angel -- better to be safe. Luckily, they were kept separated from my other cats. Thank you for your prayers and please pray for Simba. We'll miss you, Angel Girl! |
