Confetti's Story Confetti is a Seal Torti Point Javanese (longhaired Siamese), one very young, very beautiful lady with the amazingly large deep blue eyes.
Confetti was turned in to a local city shelter (by her owners) with her kittens that were only a few days old. Since shelters don't have the means or volunteers to care for a new mother and her litter of kittens, and with the large quantity of kittens turned in, overwhelming the shelters this year, Confetti's kittens were taken from her and euthanized. The volunteers felt so sad for this little emotionally lost mother. A wonderful shelter volunteer contacted Kansas City Siamese Rescue. She told us of Confetti's plight and asked us to please come see this little lady that was up for adoption. They wanted someone to take Confetti in and help her through the trauma of losing all her babies. Kansas City Siamese Rescue had three kittens in need of a surrogate mother. The kittens' own mother (Apple Blossom) had become very ill and was unable to care for her babies. The kittens were being bottle fed to keep them alive. Confetti gratefully took over their care, the perfect situation to heal her broken heart and nurture needy babies. (Only one survived, the ornriest of course, Theodore, also known as Toad.) This was therapy for all. Confetti also came down with an upper respiratory infection, caught from the babies and had to be treated. Finally, the one kitten was weaned and she was healthy enough to be spayed. The next step in her life would be finding that final home where she would be loved and cherished forever. People would come to the orphanage to adopt a new family member, but always overlooked Confetti because she wasn't the "traditional" look or color of a Siamese or Balinese. We would take her to the mobile adopt-a-pet at the Lee's Summit Petco week after week, only to have people look at her, tell her she had beautiful eyes, and walk on to admire another cat. It was sad to see her reach from the cage to everyone that walked by as if to say, "What about me? Won't you consider me?" But the people walked past her. She would then return to the back of the cage to look at us with very wide sad eyes! We talked and talked to every good potential adopter, trying to get her into a home with the love she was desperate for. We even tried to talk a previous adopter of two Siamese into taking a third. If only someone would take her home! Some said they would consider it……… And then it happened! A connection was made between Confetti and a lady who had never owned a cat before! She was a dog person, had always had German Shepherd dogs, never a cat! She asked us for Confetti's story. Where did she come from? How long had we had her? She was unsure what her husband would say. After all, they were dog people. She went about her shopping, but she could not seem to shake the connection. As she passed by once again she noticed that people were holding the cats. She came back over, looking puzzled. "Can we hold them?" she asked. "Certainly," we said. Then she asked, "Can I hold her?" "Well, of course!" and we handed over one surprised cat. As the lady held Confetti her husband reappeared. "What are you doing holding that cat?" he stated with a look of disbelief. "I'm just holding her…do you want to hold her?" He eyed the cat as if Confetti was a creature from another world. "No," he said before mumbling something about beautiful eyes then quickly departed. The lady seemed intrigued with Confetti and her unusual face, markings and those gorgeous eyes. She kept staring into those huge pools of deep, ocean blue. The longer she held Confetti the more she appeared to want our little mother cat, but then again, she was a dog person. She said she might get back to us. Confetti was once again handed back to us. Poor Confetti. Much to our surprise, and not more than three minutes later, this wonderful lady came back, like a child in a candy store, waving her money in the air and tears of happiness streaming down her face! "My husband said this was for stone rabbits, my Christmas present, but instead……I want Confetti!!!" She watched our startled faces turn teary. She was in tears. We were in tears. Even the store manager at the Lee's Summit Petco was in tears! Everyone was so very happy for Confetti!! Finally, someone came who appreciated her unusual markings, sleek features, mesmerizing blue eyes and shy kittenish personality! Finally, it was Confetti's day. Then came the shopping spree. While some of us readied Confetti for her new home with hugs and kisses, others went with Confetti's new mom to purchase all the needed supplies……food, dishes, litter pan, litter, lots of toys and a scratching post. Confetti is going to be very spoiled and very loved!! Pieces of our hearts go with Confetti to her future, but we have no doubt her life will be a fairy tale!! This is what "rescue" is all about……making that PERFECT match!! Thank you, Jackie, for adopting one of our most wonderful meezers and thank you, Petco, for helping us bring this new family together!!!! |
