We took him in on Monday to be tested and neutered, etc., only to find out that he was FIV positive. He was absolutely beautiful!! But we just didn't have the room to house him, while trying to find him a home. We debated, talked about it, prayed about it. And then we took it one day at a time. With the love and compassion of HELP, Inc. -- Cyndi and Debby -- along with others such as Tomahawk Animal Hospital and the Independence Animal Hospital, we put the word out that this fella needed a home--and quick!!! Well, it happened today, Friday, March 16th!!! Dakota went to be with his new ""dad." Read the e-mail below to see how their first meeting went and then how their first day went!!! ![]() Hi Rogena-- Well, by now I'm sure you know that this appears to be a purrfect match!! Dakota is beautiful - Jeb was already affectionately calling him "Big Dog." He went from one side of the table to the other so we could both pet him, purring the whole time. He would butt up against us then roll on his side. At one point, he sat up big and tall with his head cocked to one side looking at Jeb as if to ask a question - Jeb said, "Do you think you'd want to be my guy?" and patted his chest. Dakota put his paws up on Jeb's chest and head-butted his chin. Well, I guess Jeb had his answer!! It was just so cool! I held Dakota while we drove to where my husband was going to meet us to pick me up and then we put Dakota in his carrying kennel - I was afraid we might have a problem with him wanting to go in it, but he went right in. Jeb is absolutely thrilled with Dakota -- the look on his face the moment he saw him was like Christmas morning -- wish you could've been there to see it!! I gave him some Science Diet (didn't know what Dakota had been eating), a dish, a litter box (but he's going to have to get a much bigger one!), some litter, a baby blanket and 3 or 4 cat toys. Jeb has my phone number if he needs me and I will see him Monday at work. Cyndi called tonight and feels the same as I do -- that someone was working little miracles behind our backs on this one! I am so glad Dakota was given a few more days - he has an awesome "cat dad" now. Thanks for giving me this chance to make my heart feel so happy! Debby OK, so patience is NOT one of my virtues!!! I could not wait till Monday to check on Dakota............I just called Jeb and he said everything is absolutely WONDERFUL!! He got Dakota home about 5:30, let him out of his kennel, and Dakota immediately got in the cat box - poor little guy had to pee really bad! He then checked out the whole house and settled in on the couch for a nap. When Jeb shut the lights off to go to bed, he followed him to the bedroom and slept by his feet - he was still there this morning! When Jeb woke up, he came up to the head of the bed for his morning lovin'. Dakota ate the Science Diet real good and they played all morning - he is now all stretched out snoozing on the couch. Jeb says he acts like he has just been looking for someone to love him his whole life - follows him EVERYWHERE, talking and purring. I hope he doesn't get lonesome come Monday!! Well, just had to let you know!!!! Debby |
