Sara's Story Sara, my sweet little Sara....She was finally adopted after having been in Rescue for quite a long time. She was an owner turn-in at the Independence Animal Shelter. She was 4 years old and a four-paw-declawed cat.
After getting over the Upper Respiratory Infection that she got from being in the Shelter, she should have started adjusting and being comfortable in our home. But she remained a little timid and walked low to the ground. She loved to be petted and purred very loudly. She had one major problem -- litter box. Now, she wouldn't go all over the house, but she would almost always go beside the litter box. We decided it was time for a check up at the vet's office. What they found was a bone protruding from her right front paw. PAIN! No wonder she didn't want to use the litter box! It hurt to cover it up. With fingers crossed, we had the surgery done in hopes that this would not only relieve her pain, but correct her litter box problem. We then, three months later, had to have another surgery on the same foot. This is probably why she was turned in to the shelter -- litter box problems. All it took was a little care and she seemed to be doing better, but we had to retrain her after five years of this problem. Please remember Sara's story when trying to decide on declawing. She is a precious little girl who has a long life ahead of her thanks to the Independence Animal Shelter and Animals Best Friends, Kansas City Siamese Rescue, the Independence Animal Hospital and her new home with Leah and Roger |
